How a removal actually goes

It starts with someone walking the property. We look at the lean, the root flare, the condition of the wood, and above all what sits underneath the tree. That last part is what decides the method and most of the cost.

Open ground means we can fell it. If the tree has room to fall and the wood is sound, one notch and one back cut brings it down in a single piece. That is the fastest and cheapest way to do it, and it is also the rarest on a developed lot.

Everything else comes down in pieces. A climber ties in, works up the stem, and takes the limbs off in sections. Each piece gets rigged to a rope and lowered rather than dropped, so nothing lands on the fence, the roof or the garden bed. On a big tree that is a full day of controlled, repetitive work, and it is where insurance and experience actually matter.

When the trunk is down, the stump is cut as low as the ground allows. Grinding it out is a separate step we can do the same day. Brush is chipped, logs are hauled or cut to firewood length and stacked where you want them, and the work area gets raked and blown before we leave.

When we bring in the crane

Most removals are done with rope and a climber. A crane earns its place on the job when climbing the tree is the dangerous part, or when there is no safe path to lower the wood by hand.

  • The tree is dead or rotten and cannot be trusted to hold a climber
  • It stands directly over a roof, a deck, a pool or a power drop
  • The back yard has no gate or grade a chipper can reach
  • You want the lawn intact, since the wood flies out instead of being dragged across it

It also finishes far faster. A two-day hand removal often becomes a single morning, which usually costs less than the crane adds.
