What counts as an emergency

Not every fallen tree needs a crew at two in the morning. The question we ask on the phone is simple: is anything still moving, and is anyone or anything under it. A trunk lying flat across the back lawn can wait until Tuesday. A limb hung up in the canopy over the driveway cannot, because it comes down on its own schedule rather than yours.

The genuine emergencies are structural. A tree leaning on the house or garage, a trunk split at a main union, a root plate lifted out of the ground, or a hanger suspended over anywhere people walk. In all of those the tree is holding a load it was never built to hold, and the failure is unpredictable. Those get a crew dispatched.

Anything touching a power line is not our call first. Report it to Xcel Energy, get everyone well clear, and treat every downed wire as live. We cannot legally or safely work a wire contact until the line is de-energized, and neither can any reputable company that tells you otherwise.

After a big storm the whole metro calls at once. We triage by risk rather than by who rang first, so a tree on a bedroom gets moved ahead of a tree on a shed. If yours can safely wait, we will say so and book you properly rather than charge you emergency rates for work that is not an emergency.

Will your insurance cover it?

Usually it depends on one thing: did the tree hit something. Minnesota homeowner policies are written around damage to covered structures, not around trees themselves.

  • Tree hit the house, garage, fence or a covered structure: removal is normally covered, minus your deductible
  • Tree fell and missed everything: many policies still contribute a set amount toward debris removal
  • Tree blocking your driveway or a handicap ramp: often covered even without structural damage
  • Tree simply died, or was already dead and finally let go: usually not covered

Photograph everything before anyone touches it, call your carrier the same day, and ask us for an itemised invoice rather than a lump sum. Adjusters approve line items far more readily than a single number.

Why people call us at 3am

A real person answers
Not a voicemail box you hope somebody checks. Call at any hour and you get someone who can tell you whether it needs a crew tonight.
We triage honestly
If your tree can safely wait until morning we will tell you, and book it at normal rates instead of charging you emergency pricing for a job that is not one.
Paperwork for the claim
Itemised invoices and photographs of what we found, in the format adjusters actually approve. Fully licensed, bonded and insured.
